Helen Louise (Rife) Baldwin passed away on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014 after taking her morning walk and talking with her friends. Her passing was sudden and unexpected. Helen was born on Nov. 16, 1927 to Paul B. and Jennie May (Glassburn) Rife. She was married to Robert Charles Baldwin on Dec. 3, 1949. She was a Registered Nurse working in the offices of Drs. Sixbey and Crates in Denver, Dr. Rendel in Mexico and Drs. Snyder and Hill in Peru. She also worked at Dukes Hospital and the V.A. Hospital in Marion.
Helen is survived by her children Gregory Baldwin and his wife Patricia of Greenville, N.C.; Randy Baldwin and his wife Wendy of Peru and their children Tommy and his wife Kylie, Molly and Andy; Bianca Furst and her husband David and their daughter Laura of Anderson. She is also survived by her sister Pauline Williams and many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins. She was excitedly awaiting her first great-grandchild from Tommy and Kylie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, parents and brother Eldon.
Helen was an enthusiastic traveler, especially with her husband. Euchre and pinochle met no more determined player. She exercised and walked regularly. She delivered Meals on Wheels for over 18 years. She was an ardent supporter of the arts and the Peru community. There was no person who was not graced with her conversation or with whom she was willing to listen and commiserate. She was a proud member of the Retired Nurses Organization and loved to take tickets at circus performances. Helen was a devoted member of the Peru Church of the Brethren.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Peru Church of the Brethren.
