Mary Matilda (or Mary Magdelene) Litaker (Lytaker) was a daughter of Matthias Litaker (1809-1845) and his wife Mary M. Bost (1806-1854), of Cabarrus County, NC. Her paternal grandparents were Conrad Michael Litecker and his wife Mary Ann Herlocker; and, her maternal grandparents were Daniel Bost and his wife Elizabeth Nussman, all of Cabarrus.
Mary married Samuel Joseph F. Van Pelt (1833-1896) in 1858. He was a son of Abraham Van Pelt (1782-1856) and his wife Jane Reid, also of Cabarrus County. Mary and Joseph moved to Statesville, Iredell County, NC, where he was a prosperous merchant, and elected numerous times as mayor of the town. He also served as a Confederate soldier. They didn't have any children.
