U.S. Congressman. He immigrated to America, graduated from New York Law School, in 1906, was admitted to the bar in 1908 and commenced the practice of law in New York City. He was special deputy attorney general of the State of New York, (1911-14), a member of the board of aldermen in 1917 and a member of the New York State Assembly, 1(919-22). In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses and served until his resignation in 1945. After leaving Congress, he served as judge of the New York State Supreme Court until his death at age 69.
