Sandra Nell Floyd, 75, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at her residence. She was born on May 31, 1938 in Jacksonville to Harold and Edna Hammond Thompson. She married William Floyd, Jr., on January 23, 1959 in Springfield and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1994.

Mrs. Floyd is survived by her sons: Doug (Fiance Shawn Masters) of Auburn and Joel Floyd of Athens, one daughter Cindi Rhinehart of Monticello, eight grandchildren: Jamie, Doug, and Jeff Floyd, Jennifer, Nathan, and Billi Jo Rhinehart, and Joey Floyd, Jr., and Alicia Floyd, several great-grandchildren, one brother Kevin Holland of Springfield and one sister Janie Evans of New Athens, IL. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Gust and Kathy Holland and brothers Jimmy and Dale Thompson.

Sandra worked at Lincoln Land Community College with the displaced homemaker program and as a graphic artist. Her passion was modern art and she received Student of the Year Honors at Lincoln Land but her favorite and most treasured role was as a homemaker raising her family. She was also a member of West Side Christian Church.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday April 15, 2014 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to funeral services on Tuesday.
