Sylvia L. Armstrong, 91, of Blackhawk died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Aril 19, 2007 at Harborside. She was retired from kitchen management at Indiana State University, retiring at Buford Hall. She opened the kitchen at the Sycamore Towers when it was built.

She was born in Vigo County on Jan. 19, 1916, to Charles and Rose Liston. She married Gerald “Jerry” Armstrong, and he preceded her in death in April 1999. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy; one sister, Sue Mansholt; one granddaughter, Jenni; two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Mackenzie; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Pierson Township Extension Home Ec Club, a former longtime member of the Vigo County Extension Choral Club, and the Indiana State University Retirees Club.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Miller officiating. Burial is in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
