Wilma Jean Thornton, 76, of Box 452 Rt. 26, died Wednesday, January 15, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy illness. Born November 26, 1932 in Farmersville, N.Y., she was the daughter of Charles and Arlene Van Ocker Wilcox On September 28, 1954 in Caneadea, she married Francis W. Thornton, who survives. Wilma grew up in the Caneadea area and was a graduate of Belfast Central School, class of 1951. For several years she had been a real estate agent in the Willet area. Her main occupation in her life was taking care of her family. She was a devoted wife and Mother. She enjoyed leather tooling, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and visiting her relatives. Surviving in addition to her husband Fran are: two sons, Michael (Brenda) Thornton, Owego, N.Y., James (Lisa) Thornton, Apalachin, N.Y; three grandchildren, Alexa Thornton, Karly Thornton and Kody Thornton; three brothers, Charles Wilcox, Jack Wilcox, Jim Wilcox; a sister, Judy Demarse; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by: a sister, Betty Peacock.
Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009, where following visitations at 2:00 p.m. Funeral and Committal Services will be held. The Rev. Robert J. Mackmer, pastor of the Belfast Free Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Caneadea Cemetery.
