Parents: Benjamin F. & Laura Sisam Atkinson
COD: Accidently drowned

Toddling to the bank of an irrigation ditch near his home late Monday afternoon, Harold Floyd Atkinson, 20-month-old son of Benjamin F. and Laura S. Atkinson of Union, fell in, was swept several hundred feet downstream and drowned.

The body was found about 6 p. m. by neighbors who aided in the search for the youngster shortly after he was missed by Mrs. Atkinson.

The child had been swept over a wooden dam in the stream. When the body was found lodged against debris in the ditch, the head was badly bruised.

The Salt Lake county fire department was called to send equipment for administering artificial respiration to the child. The responsibility was transferred to Motorcycle Patrolman Sherman Falkenrath of the police department, because the fire department lacked adequate equipment.

Before Officer Falkenrath arrived at the Atkinson home, 17 minutes later, a physician had pronounced the child dead.

Surviving Harold are his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Clarence, Willis, Verl, Thelma, Luvetta and Ruby Atkinson.

The baby was born November 15, 1927.
