Anna (Klas) Russo, 97, of Durham, wife of the late Michael Russo died Tuesday at her home. She was born in Haddam, daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Krivanec) Klas.
She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class in Deep River, CT. Anna worked as a bookkeeper in Middlesex County businesses, one being Millane Nurseries, where she met her husband. She lived at her home in Durham, CT since 1948, where she enjoyed being with her family, cooking, gardening, reading and doing crossword puzzles. In the early 1970's, she and her husband toured the United States by automobile, and in several trips managed to visit each of the lower 48 states. For a number of years, she volunteered at the Durham Fair and Middlesex Memorial Hospital. She always cherished her visits with her grandchildren at her home in Durham or at their home in Athol MA. Anna enjoyed taking classes at Middlesex Community College. Her loving, goodhearted ways will be missed by all.
Anna is survived by three sons, Thomas Russo and his wife Anne of Athol, MA, Kenneth Russo of Durham, Donald Russo and his wife Sally of West Coxsackie, NY, two grandchildren, Claire Russo of Richmond, VA, Elizabeth Ellis and her husband Tyndall of Anchorage, AK and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son David, brother, Frank Klas and sisters, Bertha Sima, Mary Tait and Irma Jones.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may call prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Saint Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield.
