NEW GLOUCESTER -- Arlene L. May, 87, of New Gloucester and Windham, passed away on April 9, 2014, in Lewiston.
She was born in New Gloucester on Dec. 30, 1926, the daughter of Arthur and Norine Chamberlin Snow. Arlene was the first child of eight children born to Arthur and Norine Snow. She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1946.
Arlene married Linwood B. May Sr. on Dec. 5, 1951, in New Gloucester. She worked in the laundry at the Opportunity Farm for Boys in New Gloucester for 21 years.
Arlene was a very loving and happy go lucky woman, always smiling. She loved dancing, reading, spending time with her family camping, and fishing. Arlene so enjoyed family gatherings and watching Tom Brady of the New England Patriot's with her son, Linwood and daughter- in-law, Deb.
She is survived by her son, Linwood B. May Jr. and his wife Deborah of New Gloucester; three grandchildren, Daniel May of Sanford, Nina May of Auburn, Austin May of Auburn; three great-grandchildren, Alec, Aeryn and Sadie May of Sanford a step - grandson, Joshua Crosby and his wife Lisa; three step great-grandchildren, Bailey, Andrew and Corey Crosby of Fayette; brother, Gary Snow of Naples, sister, Joyce Milligan of Livermore Falls; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood Sr. who died on Nov. 13, 2004; sisters, Leona Waterman, Kathryn (Kate) Pierce, and Barbara Hart, and brother, Forrest Snow.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 12, at her son and daughter-in-law's home, 15 Estes Rd., New Gloucester, from 1 to 4 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland on a later date.
