Joseph was the son of Abel Scull & Elizabeth Tonkin .(Abel 4, John 3, Pieter Jansen 2 Scholl, Jan Pietersen 1 Scholl )
Served in Gloucester CO NJ Militia during Revolutionary War .

"who at one time was one of the wealthiest men in South Jersey. In taking up arms against Great Britain in the Revolutionary War, Joseph converted his personal property into Continental money, which was never redeemed, and the war left him little but his lands. Washington recommended Joseph Scull for promotion in the following words: He is a young man, but a brave soldier, and deserves promotion.
" He married Sarah ------- before 1760 whose maiden name is unknown to date .
She is listed in N.S. D.A.R. Lineages, Vol. 21, p.165) .
Joseph Scull Will & codicil names his children living and deceased along with children of his deceased sons .
