I think that the date of death for Willis Jones might be an error. He was still living when the lands of his father were divided in Chatham County, NC, on 18 August 1835. See Chatham Co., NC, Deed Book AG, pages 560 & 561. I checked his estate file, and his estate was probated in 1837. See FHL digital film 4727860, images 1706- 1711, Tennessee, Maury County, Estate Files, estate of Willis Jones. The headstone is illegible, but I think it most likely that he died in 1837, not 1831.

When Willis was about fifteen years old his family moved from Orange County, NC to Chatham County, NC where he lived until he moved to Maury Co. TN in 1812. Several others of the NC Jones clan also moved to Middle TN about this time.
During the War of 1812, Willis Jones was a Corporal in Capt. Mebane's Company, Col. Philip Pinkin's 1st Regiment of West TN Militia from 20 June 1814 to 21 December 1814.
