Funeral services will be held Monday evening, April 7, 2014 at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of her son, James Jones Jr. and wife, JoAnn at 411 Tommy's Road in Goldsboro. A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery in Goldsboro.
Mrs. Baker was born in Lenoir County on November 24, 1921 to the late Levy and Annie Hines Avery. She was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church and retired from Eckerd's Drug Store and also from the Senior Companion Program.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Ray Jones and wife, Wanda of Pikeville, Bobby Jones of Virginia and James Jones Jr. and wife, Jo Ann of Goldsboro; three daughters, Brenda Strother and husband, Marc of Kinston, Mary Kearney and husband, Steve of Goldsboro and Margaret Ann Stanley and husband, Leroy of Goldsboro; one brother, Clifton Avery and wife, Elnora of Garner; daughter-in-law, Kaye Jones of Mt. Olive; and 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice Jones; two sons, Johnny Jones and Linwood Jones; one brother, Lloyd Avery and two sisters, Annie Lee Garvey and Beatrice Hester.
