Patsy was born June 4, 1933, to John H. Word and Patty Frances (Foster) Word. She attended Lone Grove Schools and graduated from Southern Oklahoma Technology Center with her LPN certification in nursing. Patsy married Billy Joy Chambers in 1970. She worked at the hospital and at nursing homes in Ardmore before working as a private duty nurse in the Ardmore area. A successful business owner, Patsy owned Persimmon Hill Room and Board, a residential living center in Cheek, Okla., before its closing in 1988. She was happiest caring for the elderly. Patsy enjoyed cooking, crocheting and spending time with her family, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Patty Word; her husband, Bill, who passed in 1993; brothers Ned Word, Lee Word, Jack Word and Bruce Word; sisters Doris DeRousse, Norma Kindle and Sally Elmore; and nephew Stanley Elmore.
Patsy is survived by her son, John Chambers and wife, Brandi, of McKinney, Texas; daughter Rachael Chambers of Ardmore; four grandchildren, Gerald Wilkinson, Rebecca Marker, Billy Joe Wilkinson and Ryan Rush; sisters June Pope of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Sandra Sims of Canon City, Colo.; brother Carl Word of Mineral Wells, Texas; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Wilkinson, David Brittian, Sean McCallister, Lewis Adams, Billy Wolf and Bob White.
A visitation will be from 6 until 8 Friday evening, April 11, 2014, at Griffin-Hillcrest, Ardmore.
