Margery was the daughter of John Cogswell and Hannah Goodhue of Ipswich, Mass. Her name is given as Margaret in some records, but a majority of records give her name as Margery. She was married first in Boxford, Mass. on 1 March 1721/2 to Amos Perley (1699-1747/8), the son of Thomas Perley and Abigail Towne of Boxford. With her first husband, she was a member of the First Church in Boxford. Her husband was a surveyor of highways, overseer of the poor, constable, and selectman in Boxford. She was named Margaret in her husband's will, and was to be given a horse to ride on by her son Amos.

She was married second in Boxford on 11 October 1759 to Lt. Mark How(e), as his second of three wives. Her death record in Ipswich calls her "Margery, the wife of Deacon Mark How." The Linebrook Parish Church Records also call her the wife of Deacon Mark How.
