Major League Baseball Player. He was a part of the Baltimore Orioles’ organization for almost forty years. The catcher played for the Orioles from 1968 to 1979 including the 1969 to 1971 seasons when the Orioles appeared in three straight World Series, winning the series in 1970. Although his lifetime batting average was only .220 he was an effective game manger from behind home plate. During the 1971 season he caught for four twenty game winners. He had short playing stints with the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees, but he will always be associated with the Orioles, not only for his playing, but also for his coaching. He was the team’s bullpen coach for twenty-eight years. Born in the Virgin Islands he died in Baltimore one day before his sixty-fifth birthday.
