CHARLEY ERWIN WARDLAW, JR. departed this life on Friday, April 4, 2014 at his home in Arrington, Virginia. Charles was born on February 13, 1946 in Columbus, Georgia. He was one of five children born to the late Charley Erwin Wardlaw, Sr. and Alvina Nunally Wardlaw Lyles.

After retirement, Charles permanently relocated to Arrington, Virginia. He was the owner of Wardlaw Silver Lining Tours and Charter bus company. He had a passion for helping others and he was always patient and caring. His clients loved his hospitality and admired his skill as a safe driver.

Charles was married to Emma Arlene Nappier, his devoted wife of 37 years. From this union three children were born; Michelle Dionne, Michael Bradley (deceased), and Stephen Marcus. He was an active member of the White Rock Baptist Church.

Charles truly loved his family. While operating his own business, he also supported his children in following their dreams. He traveled with his daughter to Florence, South Carolina to help her get settled after she was hired for her first news broadcasting job. Later, he converted one of his commercial charter buses into a mobile kitchen to help his son, Stephen, start his own business -- Taste-O-South Hickory Smoke Barbecue and also joined him in participating in several regional and national barbecue competitions. He also chauffeured his wife to colleges and universities to recruit teachers for the Nelson County School System.

If he was asked to do a job, he stayed with it until the job was completed. He loved to stay at home and watch football on television. He toured the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium with his son during a business trip and met the owner, Jerry Jones. Charles was an avid reader. He also loved fishing, cooking, gardening, and traveling.
