Services to remember his life were held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 7 o'clock p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by the Reverend Wanda G. Simmons. visitation followed the service. The family received friends and visitors at the home of Kathryn A. Hines, 440 Bethel Church Road, Mount Olive, NC at all other times.
Mr. Hines was born in Onslow County, NC and was a retired food inspector with U.S. Department of Agriculture. He enjoyed area flea markets, growing plants and flowers in his greenhouses, and his fascination with rocks and gems led his being referred to as a "Rock Hound."
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Alphin Hines; a daughter, Dawn Hines Seagroves of Mount Olive; two sons, Jay Hines of Mount Olive,and John Hines of the home; a son-in-law, Hilbert Swinson, Jr. of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Angel Sawyer, Samantha Carter, Storm Oates, Rebecca Hines, and Sarah Hines; six great-grandchildren, Savannah Sawyer, Saylor Sawyer, Clint Carter, Keith Carter, Collin Carter, and Colt Carter; four brothers and sisters-in-law, John Bowman, Doug and Katherine Bowman of Sneads Ferry, Kenny and Brenda Bowman of Va., Joe and Joanie Bowman of S.C.; two sisters and brothers in law, Cathy and Bobby Rendleman of Md., and Louie Dell and Edison Batchelor of Sneads Ferry; a brother in law, Turman Alphin II of Mount Olive; two sisters in law, Linda A. Walker and husband, Buddy, of Surf City, and Ellie A. Overman of Mount Olive.
He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Lia Bowman; the parents who adopted him and gave him a great upbringing, Garland and Lola Hardison; a daughter, Pamela Hines Swinson; a son, Anthony Scott Hines; a son in law, Tony Seagroves; a brother in law, Gerald Overman; and his parents in law, Turman and Mary Lou Alphin.
