Obituary:
THOMAS HAMILTON Died at his home at 91 Center Street Wednesday night. His death due to bowel trouble. He was past 55 years old. He was born at Center Furnace, Lawrence county, June 9, 1845. Lived in Portsmouth six years of his life. Served in Civil War in Capt. John S. George's Ind. Cavalry . . . in Battle of Bull Run and at St. Mary's Church, Va., was wounded in the hip. He was a journalist. Mrs. Hamilton and three children survive. The latter are: Johanna, aged 14; John aged 11; and Mary Louise, aged 8. He had one brother here, Attorney John Hamilton, and four sisters, Mrs. F. C. Tomlinson, Mrs. W. H. Enochs, Mrs. McGugin and Mrs. Rosa McBride of New York. Interment: Woodland Cemetery..
