Obituary for Debra Sexton

Debra Kay Love was born in Monroe, Michigan on August 26, 1961. She was the daughter of the late Cleve Love and Eileen (Baker) Love. Debbie graduated from Airport High School in 1979 and attended Eastern Michigan University. She married the love of her life, John Sexton, on October 22, 1983 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe. From this marriage would come the birth of beautiful twin daughters Jessica Faith Sexton and Jenna Marie Sexton.

Debbie was a strong and determined woman who balanced her life well with daily prayer and exercise. She received her spiritual nourishment from Trinity Lutheran and read her Bible daily. Debbie was an athlete still holding records at Airport High for the 800 and 1600 meter distances as well as in cross country. During her lifetime she completed four Ironman Triathlons and finished 6th in the St Louis Marathon. Debbie appreciated the outdoors, partaking in biking, camping, canoeing, fishing, and water skiing. She also liked to hunt, shooting her first elk in September of 2013.

Debbie was kind, compassionate, easy going; a woman who loved her family very much. She enjoyed watching her girls play sports, family get- togethers and holidays.

Debra Kay Sexton, age 52 of Fruitport, Michigan, passed away at 10:02am, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at her mother's home surrounded by her family and under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice. In addition to her father, her passing is preceded in death by her brother; Steven Love.

To cherish her memory, Debbie leaves her loving husband of thirty years: John Sexton; twin daughters: Jessica and Jenna Sexton of Monroe; John's son: Michael Votzke and his daughter's Lillian and Gracie of Addison; a sister: Janice (William) Jay of Ohio; three nieces: Sarah Jay of Ohio, Ashley (Rob) Schmidt of Kentucky, Alicia Love of Monroe; and one nephew: James Love of Monroe.

Friends may gather from 3:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 12, 2014 also at Merkle's with Pastor Heimsoth from Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park for burial.
