Lieut. J.C. Coffing, of the 10th Conn., who suffered amputation of his leg, in consequence of a wound received at Kinston, during the late expedition to Goldsboro, N.C., has since died, and his body has been received by his friends. He was a member of the City Guard, and was much respected in this city by those who enjoyed his acquaintance. He was a son of Charles F. Coffing, of Great Barrington, Mass.
Mr. J. Watson Beach went to Newbern on learning that Lieut. Coffing was wounded. He returns with the bodies of Lieut. Coffing, Lieut. W.W. Perkins, of New London, Lieut. Theron D. Hills [sic], Coventry, and Capt. H.A. Wells of Hartford, all of the 10th Conn."
