MISHAWAKA - Frances B. Buck, 93, of Mishawaka, passed away in her home on January 7, 2014. She is the daughter of Howard and Rachel (Tiedge) Fullmer.
She is survived by her two children, Mary Ellen Hynes of Glendale, AZ, and Ernest A. (Jennifer) Buck of Webster, NH; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Martin of South Bend, Carl (Jeanette) Fullmer of Mishawaka, and John (Azalee) of Kiln, Mississippi; and sisters, Louise Umbaugh of Osceola and Edith (William) Schmitt of North Liberty, and sister-in-law, Ellen Fullmer of LaPorte.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Buck; and brothers, Donn in infancy, Dr. Harold Fullmer of Birmingham AL, William of LaPorte, and Arthur Fullmer, who was killed in action in WWII and is buried with his comrades in Naturno, Italy.
Frances was born in South Bend but moved with her parents to North Liberty at an early age, where she spent her childhood. After graduating from North Liberty High School on April 28, 1938, she entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and earned her Registered Nurse Certificate on January 4, 1944. After gaining her certification, she continued to work at St. Joseph Hospital in the pediatric care unit. In 1943, Frances met Ernest Loren Buck and they were married January 6, 1944. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1990, at a Medical Center in McAllen, TX where they had a winter home in the nearby community of Mission, TX. She was a longtime and faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in South Bend.
