WILLIAM GONTER.

William Gonter was born at Madison, Kansas in 1872, and came to Sycamore in 1892. He worked the D. J. Carnes farm one mile west of this city for several years, when he removed to Geneva where he had charge of the State Training School for girls. From Geneva he moved to Glenwood where he occupied a similar position, and here occurred the death of his wife on February 19, 1902. He then went to DeKalb where he worked for the firm of Sheets & Knodle and also was assistant engineer in the Superior factory. From DeKalb, Mr. Gonter went to Dodge City, Kansas, where he was engaged in the photography business. His tragic and untimely end came on Sunday, May 28. A party of four, including two ladies, attempted to ford a stream at the usual fording place, but heavy rains had swollen the river and all were carried down stream and drowned together with the horses. The body was brought to Sycamore Friday on the 12:13 train and funeral services were held at the C. W. Steenrod residence on West State street at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Rev. C. S. Moore officiating. The interment was beside the remains of his wife in Elmwood cemetery. Mr. Gonter was a young man of intelligence and industry and of agreeable social qualities.
