Glenard Ira (G.I) Norris, was born November 18, 1927 in a farmhouse on Norris Hill in Brown County.

He was the only child of Ira and Carrie Norris. He met his Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2014.

He married Bobbie Woody on March 12, 1948.

G.I. is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bobbie, his grandson, Dusty Norris and sister-in-law Linda Woody.

G. I. graduated from Bangs High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Howard Payne University. He continued his education at Baylor University and later at Southwestern Seminary. G.I. was a faithful servant for our Lord.

G.I. surrendered to preach at the age of 17. His first pastorate was at the age of 17 in Coleman. The Lord took him to all fifty states in the United States holding revivals, pastoring churches or helping in some aspect of mission work. He served churches in Coleman, Mirando City, Waco, and Fort Worth at which time he felt the Lord calling him into mission work. G.I. became a church planter in Colorado, Indiana and Michigan, most of the time having church services in their home. He supplemented their income by teaching. While serving in Michigan, Bobbie became ill with Hodgkin's disease and they moved back to Texas to be close to their parents. He served as interim pastor in Slaton. G.I moved his family to El Paso where he served as pastor of Tigua Baptist Church. In 1966 he was called as pastor to Immanuel Baptist in Hobbs, New Mexico. While serving there he felt called to Home Missions and Bobbie and he were commissioned by the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board in 1969. They served in Peabody, Massachusetts, Santa Monica, California and Kaunakakai, Hawaii. His last full time pastorate was at First Baptist Church in Wink, Texas. After retiring he served as interim pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in San Angelo and later as their pastor to Senior Adults.

In 2011 he took a trip to Anchorage, Alaska to complete his dream of seeing all fifty states, where he also was able to visit in the church that he had helped with monetary donations to their building program so many years ago. G.I.'s heart was in mission work. He was blessed to be able to participate personally in trips to Cuba, Philippines, Guadalajara, Mexico, Romania, Brazil, and Venezuela. He participated in many more with his financial support. G.I touched many lives in his lifetime.

Even in his dying days as he laid quietly and peacefully waiting for his call to his heavenly home, the staff noticed his calm assurance of his eternal home, He was loved by many and will be missed. Rest in peace Dad as you wait for the jewels in your crown.

Visitation will be all day Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the funeral home with family present from 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Bobby Rogers. Interment will be at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Calvary Baptist Church, San Angelo or your favorite mission organization.
