James Thomas "Tom" Dorris, 94, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the West Point Care Center.
He was born on September 29, 1919 in Monroe, WA to Jimmie Lee & Bertie Cyrinthia Norris Dorris. He married Lillian Ruth Athey on May 12, 1947 in Olivehurst, CA. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2006. He was a newspaper executive for many years. He was a member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Tom is survived by: 1-daughter: Carolyn (Larry) Smith of Fort Madison, IA; 1-son: Richard (Gail) Dorris of Athens, GA; 4-grandchildren: Leslie (Drew) Hawkins, Lisa (Dave) Pursel, Christopher (Emily) Smith & Carrie (Brent) Hunold; 7-great grandchildren & 1-sister: Dorothy Rose of Olivehurst, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife & 3-sisters.
Burial is in Oakland Cemetery.
