Arnold R. Mettler, 75, of Lodi, died June 18 in a local convalescent hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Lodi where he resided all his life.
Mr. Mettler was a 1944 graduate of Lodi Union High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of Zion Reformed Church and was a member of American Legion Post No. 22 of Lodi.
He was employed for 28 years at the Thornton Cannery and was a member of the Cannery Workers Union. He enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his uncle, Edwin P. Bender.
A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home with Mr. Herman Brosnikoff of Zion Reformed Church officiating. Committal will be private at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Reformed Church Middle School, 105 S. Ham Lane, Lodi, CA 95242.
Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
