The Late John Allan Baird: John Allan Baird, a life-long resident of the community, was paid final honors by a large number of friends and neighbors at the funeral service held Monday afternoon, August 17th from the Kennedy Funeral Home to St. James' Anglican Church, Carp, and conducted by Rev. Leonard J. Baird, of St. Matthew's Church, Ottawa. Interment took place in St. James' cemetery. Mr. Baird passed away at his home on Friday afternoon after several weeks' illness. Born in Fitzroy township, on June 17, 1884, a son of the late Robert Baird and Elizabeth Robertson, deceased had farmed on the sixth line of Huntley for nearly fifty years and was a member of St, John's Anglican Church. Besides his wife, the former Minnie Laurena Smyth, he leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. Gordon Davis (Hazel), of Ottawa; two sons, Melvin James of Carp and John Robertson of Ottawa, and four grandchildren, John and Dianne Davis and David and Robert Allan Baird; one brother, William A. Baird of Kinburn, and two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Baird of Ottawa and Mrs. George Greene of Carp, and several nieces and nephews. Among the floral tributes were pieces from the executive of the Elmdale Cheese Factory of which he was a past president, and from S.S. No. 4 Huntley of which he was a trustee at the time of his death. The pallbearers were Messers Willie Hodgins, frank Bayliss, Arnold Greene, Claude Reid, Lloyd Armstrong and Lloyd Cavanagh.
