Joel Strickland, 70, of Summerville, husband of Teresa Harbeson Strickland, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at his son's residence.
Mr. Strickland was born June 14, 1943, in Galivant's Ferry, SC, a son of the late Leroy and Ruby Elliott Strickland.
He was a graduate of Green Sea High School, Clemson University and The Citadel. He was an educator and retired from Dorchester School District II. He served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime member of Knightsville United Methodist Church and The Lowcountry Emmaus Community.
Mr. Strickland was survived by his wife, Teresa Harbeson Strickland, son, William Joel Strickland; two daughters, Hazel Amanda (Trent) Peagler and Sallie Kate Harbeson (Bill) Carr; four grandchildren, Gavin Shelton Peagler, Evan Grant Peagler, Charlie Ann Carr and Kennedie Lynn Carr, all of Summerville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family received at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Trent Peagler, 106 Harter Drive, Quail Arbor, Summerville.
Funeral services were Thursday, April 10, 2014, in Knightsville United Methodist Church, Summerville. Entombment followed in Dorchester Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
