Sarah L. Reese, 51, died on Sunday, April 6, 2014, after being struck by a speeding train called cancer.

For her beloved daughters, Haley, Paige and Zoe Larson, she took the role of "soccer mom" to a new level. Her greatest joy was cheering them on as they excelled in sports, in school and at so much else.

Sarah worked alongside her younger sister and best friend, Robin; between them there was no separation.

Sarah lived in Pleasant Hill and graduated from Des Moines East High School.

She loved animals and nurtured a menagerie including dogs, cats, lizard, rabbit, mice, and Zoe's toad colonies. She loved sports, especially her daughters' teams, also Chelsea Football Club and Cyclone basketball.

Sarah worked for Little Debbie Snack Cakes, as a bus monitor for the Des Moines Public Schools, for Iowa Realty, for the Animal Rescue League, and at 7-Eleven, where she met Terry when he stopped by after his night shift loading UPS trucks. Her first "job", when she was 12, was brushing horses at Rising Sun Stables in exchange for riding time.

Sarah will be missed immeasurably by her three daughters; her husband of 26 years, Terry Larson; her parents, Marilyn and Guy "Red" Reesel her father-in-law, James Balkemal; her siblings, Kern (Gail), Renae (David Blatt), Bart (Teresa), Robin, and Jason; siblings-in-law, Christine, Debra, and Robert; nieces and nephews, Aunt Elaine, Cousin Scott Walmer (Liz), Reese/Johnson/Frisk/Charter cousins and aunts too numerous to name; and dear friend, Sue Schmidt.

Sarah's brother, Jon, and Terry's parents, Shirley Ann Balkema and Rudolph Larson passed away before her.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Iles Grandview Park Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. Her life will be celebrated at Oakwood United Methodist Church, 400 NE 56th Street, Pleasant Hill, 4 p.m. Thursday, April 10.

Donations in Sarah's honor may be made to the "Robin for Larson Daughters" scholarship fund at Affinity Credit Union, 1700 E. Army Post Road, Des Moines, 50320.
