William served as a Private First Class, Company L, 330th Infantry, 83rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on October 3, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Elevator operator and also as Single, without dependents.

William was "Killed In Action" in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest, Belgium during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
