Edgar Robert Spencer Sr., 85, of Salem Boulevard, Berwick, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Fritzingertown Senior Living Community, Drums.

He was born in Nanticoke on Jan. 5, 1929, a son of the late Charles and Catherine Spencer. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Edgar owned and operated Ed Spencer's Auto Parts since 1957. He held racetrack championships at Bone Stadium, Selinsgrove, Port Royal and Rummages Drive-in Speedway. His nickname was "Fast Eddie" and he raced under the car number "24."

He served in the U.S. Army.

Preceding him in death are his wife of 56 years, Frances Veronica, who passed away in 2008; daughter Christine Spencer, who passed away in 2010; and brothers: Theodore, Andrew, Cyrus and Charles.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Edgar Spencer Jr., Berwick; Jimmy and Pat Spencer, North Carolina; Justine and Steven Sinagra, Connecticut; Paul and Stacey Spencer, Gary and Laura Spencer and Pamela Spencer, Berwick, and sister Jenny Brown, Shickshinny.

Ed loved and was loved by his grandchildren: Edgar Spencer III, Kristen and John Best, Christopher and Kacey Piatt, Jimmy Spencer, Katrina and Benjamin Latimer, Paul and Katie Spencer and Jerry Niznik; as well as his great-grandchildren: Brayden and Sierra Spencer, Addyson and Alyssa Best, and Kinsley Piatt.

A memorial service to celebrate Edgar's life will be Friday, April 11, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. C. Glenn Neely officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, and the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
