Maurice J. Harris, age 79, died Saturday, April 5, 2014 in Denton, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas with Scotte Clark, of Olney, officiating. Private family burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Maurice was born on May 4, 1934 in Jasper County, Illinois to the late Don and Mary (McDaniel) Harris. He graduated from Casey, Illinois High School. He and Mary Ellen McReaken were married on May 13, 1956 in Casey, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1989. He married Lynda Anderson on February 24, 1990 in San Antonio, Texas, and moved to San Antonio and later Denton, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denton. While living in Olney, Texas, Maurice was very involved in community affairs. He was a member of the Rotary Club, President of the Olney Booster Club, a member of the Board of Directors for the Olney Board of Industry and Commerce and a member of the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir. Maurice had worked for Coachmen Industries and was co-owner of Olney Auto Supply, had been an accountant for a small oil company, and was a true entrepreneur. He retired in 2002 from Pro-Tech Case Company, which he started in 1990, and his sons Jeff and J.D. each have owned and operated it to this day. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary Ellen and one brother, Wendell Leroy Harris.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Lynda Harris of Denton, Texas; two sons: Jeff Harris and Allen Livingston of Argyle, Texas, and J. D. Harris of Ft. Worth, Texas; five daughters: Julia Stewart and husband Robert of Olney, Texas, Jennie Walker of Olney, Texas, Joanne Kunkel and husband Kyle of Holliday, Texas, Sherri Anderson and Susan Anderson both of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters: Marilyn Sinclair and husband Robert of Mahomet, Illinois and Maurine Howe of Casey, Illinois; nine grandchildrens; and four great-grandchildren
