Vera Spires Gibson was born in Columbia, SC to the late Lucius Jason Spires and Ada Christmas Spires.

She was a resident of Walterboro, SC for 40 years where she and her husband A.L. "Roy" Gibson, Jr. operated the Burger Chick restaurant and Walterboro Drive-In Theater. Later in life she worked for Dogwood Hills Country Club as an administrative assistant and volunteered at Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a long time member.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband A.L. "Roy" Gibson, Jr., her stepmother Mildred Green Spires; a son Richard "David" Gibson; a brother Orris Spires; and a sister Thelma Pauley.

A funeral service was held Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, SC with Rev. Theron Smith.

The family is grateful for the love, care, and support from the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice during Mrs. Gibson's extended illness.
