Edmonia's sister was the well known Southern Baptist foreign missionary, Lottie Moon who served in China for forty years. Edmonia also served as as a missionary to China and served for about five years but had to return to America due to illness.
Excerpted from "The New Lottie Moon Story" by Catherine B. Allen...
Referring to Edmonia Moon on Page 258..."On November 19, 1908, lying in bed with woolen covers pulled over her, she put a gun to her head and died."
From the same book under Notes...on Page 281.
53. Mrs. Robert Alexis Green, Starke, Florida, in letter to the author, December 12, 1978. Mrs. Green interviewed Edmonia Moon's neighbor, Hugh Brownlee; a local merchant, Jack Quigley, who sold the coffin for Edmonia; and the undertaker's son, Dewitt Jones. They are the sources of scant information about Edmonia's life and death in Starke. Edmonia's house still stands on the corner of South Church Street, across the street from the funeral home. She was buried in Crosby Cemetery. Her grave may have been marked with a cross bearing the name "Lucy," or it may have been left unmarked. The purchase of property by Edmonia from the Brownlees, her will, actions by Isaac Andrews as executor, and the sale of the property by Isaac and Annie Andrews are recorded in the Bradford County Courthouse, Starke. Also, Edmonia's will is recorded in Albemarle County Courthouse, Will Book 31, December 9, 1908.
