Mary A. was born in Nacogdoches County, the oldest daughter of seven children.

Mary's youngest sibling was only 9 or 10 years old, when their father was killed in a neighbor dispute. Their mother remained on their farm, and raised their younger children until her death before 1890.

In 1882, at the age of 20, Mary was married in Shelby County, Texas. Their first daughter, LaNora, was born in 1883 on their farm near Center, Texas. They had six daughters and a son, before her husband died in 1897.

With six daughters and a son only 8 years old, their mother had a difficult time providing for the family. Just a year later, a neighbor, Martin A. Corbitt was widowed, when his wife died after contracting polio. The Corbitts had three children, a daughter, and two sons. The Corbitt sons were old enough to work in the fields. M. A. Corbitt and Mary were married in Shelby County, Texas, in 1899.

In addition to the ten children of their "blended" family, Martin and Mary had one more child, Lewil Otis Corbitt, born in 1900.

Mary and Martin A. Corbitt died within a few months of each other in 1915, leaving their youngest son orphaned at age 15.

Son: Lewil

Mary is almost certainly buried in New Hope Cemetery. Her grave is unmarked, but most likely noted with a small stone engraved "Mother", close to her first husband's grave. Martin Arthur Corbitt's grave marker is near, with his first wife buried adjacent.

Two of Mary's children, a son (d. 1902) and a daughter (d. 1903), are also buried here, in unmarked graves, near their parents.
