NAUGATUCK — Robert Harold Belden passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Waterbury Hospital.

Bob was born in Hartford on Sept. 25, 1932, to Harold (Poppy) and Helen Cannon Belden. He graduated from St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Mass., in 1952. He was a graduate of Providence College in 1956.

He was a proud American who served in the United States Army and Korean War conflict.

Bob married Marilyn Randall in 1958 and they raised five children. He was a longtime employee of Dorr Oliver in Stamford as a commercial collections manager until his retirement in 1991. Before retiring, he looked forward to summer family vacations in New England and spending time at the cottage in Niantic.

Bob enjoyed his retirement of 22 years in many ways. He was an avid woodworker and Boston Red Sox fan. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing, fireworks in Naugatuck, watching his kids' Thursday night softball games, war movies and cowboy movies. His real passion was puttering in the yard, gardening and just being outdoors.

He was predeceased by his sister, Betty. He leaves behind his five children and their spouses: Robert Belden and Irene; Jim Belden and Margaret; Mike Belden and Nancy; Lisa Ewing and Steve; and Tom Belden and Jeanne. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Greg, Jake, Jamie, Timothy, Summer, Brittany, Chase, Sarah and Mark. In addition, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck, followed by burial with full military honors at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. Arrangements are by Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
