HAVERHILL, MA: Laura "Mavis" (Merrill) Perkins, 78, of Haverhill, passed peacefully Sunday morning, January 11, 2015, at Penacook Place in Haverhill. She was the beloved wife of Wellman "Laurie" Perkins.
Born May 25, 1936 in Madison, Maine, Laura was one of five children of the late Orrin and Ruby [Haines] Merrill. After graduating from Bangor High School in Bangor, Maine, she went on to graduate from the New England School of Theology [Berkshire Christian College, Lenox, Mass.]
For many years, Laura had worked in the admissions office of the former Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen and was a longtime, faithful member of the Advent Christian Church of Haverhill. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt, was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, and was passionate about her cats.
In addition to her husband of 40 years, she is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Perkins of Haverhill; her brothers, Erwin Merrill and wife, Berta, of South Paris, Maine, Orrin Merrill Jr. and wife, Fay, of Millinocket, Maine, and Gene Merrill and wife, Janet, of Dallas, Texas; her sister, Miriam Loghry and husband, James, of Pascoag, R.I.; along with several generations of nieces and nephews. They were all very special to her.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17th, at 11 a.m., at the Advent Christian Church, 160 Carleton Street, Haverhill. Interment in Linwood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Advent Christian Church, 160 Carleton Street, Haverhill, MA 01832 or Alzheimers Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
