Last rites for Thad M. Cooney, 57, were held here Thursday, April 29 at the Wolfe Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Everett H. Staas. Mr. Cooper died April 26 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, following a lingering illness
Sing was by Cecil Weaver accompanied by Frances Wheeler and in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Paul Long and Mrs. Cliff Groff. Pall bearers were C. E. Murphy, Fred Fryer, Jim Long, Don Wilmarth, Clifford McGregor, Francis Murphy, Buck Schafroth, Jerry Gauthier, Boyd Frehous, Marvin Thurman, Cliff Groff and Bryon Swartz and interment was in the Villisca Cemetery.
Thad McKinley Cooney, son of Albert F. and Phoebe A. Smith Cooney, was born September 4, 1896 near Villisca, in Montgomery County, Iowa. In the Spring of 1909, at the age of 12 years, he moved with his parents to a farm in Taylor County where he grew to manhood.
He was married October 24, 1915 to Lela Jackson and most of their married life was spent on a farm near Iveryville. In February of this year they moved to Villisca to make their home.
Surviving Mr. Cooney, besides his wife are three brothers, Earl M., Villisca, Harry A., Brooks, ad Clark R., Joliet, Montana. His parents, a brother Clint J., and his only sister Beulah F. Fryer preceded him in death.
