Greensboro - Frank Marshall Freeman, Jr. passed away on July 25, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Memorial service will be Thursday, July 28, 2 p.m. at Westover Church, 505 Muirs Chapel Road Greensboro, NC, 27410. Reception will follow in the church lobby.

He was born on May 20, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio to Frank Marshall Freeman and Sarah Pearce Freeman, the oldest of four boys. He grew up in Whitehaven, TN, where he met his wife, Sherry Hutson. He attended the University of Mississippi on an NROTC Scholarship. After graduating, he was commissioned as a supply officer in the United States Navy. He attended U.S. Naval Supply Corps School in Athens, GA. He worked as an Area Manager for Dobb's House restaurants and would go on to own and operate a franchise of 36 Waffle House restaurants in central North Carolina. He served as President of both the North Carolina Restaurant Association and the North Carolina Travel Council. He served on the boards of both the Guilford County and the North Carolina State Health Departments.

He was a member of the Greensboro Kiwanis Club. On June 13, of this year, he and his wife Sherry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was a wonderful family man and was very generous towards many people and causes. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank M. Freeman. He is survived by his mother, Sarah Pearce Freeman of Whitehaven; three brothers John Lee Freeman of Southaven, Roger Paul Freeman of Clarksville and Mark Pearce Freeman of Nashville; wife Sherry, daughter Susan and spouse James, son Frank and spouse Mercedes and son John and spouse Emily. His treasured grandchildren include Ava Grace, Stella, Sara, Luke and Ana, and two step-grandchildren Meredith and Jordan, all of Greensboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to People Helping People Fund, in care of Westover Church, 505 Muirs Chapel Road Greensboro, 27410.
