Liva B. Wynings, age 99, passed away to be with the Lord on Friday evening, April 4, 2014 at the Berwick Hospital. She resided most of her life in Main Twp. and was a resident of Berwick for the past 5 years. Liva was greatly anticipating her 100th birthday party.
Liva was born on Friday, May 22, 1914 in Scott Township, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Edith Jones Baker.
After graduating from the Bloomsburg High School in 1932, Liva graduated in 1936 from Bucknell University after four years of studying in the Pre-Med program. She continued her education at the Bloomsburg State Teachers College, and received teaching certification in Math, Science, English and German. Liva's teaching career continued in many area schools: Scott, Mainville, Beaver, Nescopeck, Black Creek and Bloomsburg. She retired in 1979 from the Bloomsburg School District. Through her retirement, Liva continued to help many young students by tutoring them until she was in her late 80's.
In addition to her parents, Liva was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years: Orval L. Wynings, on June 27, 1992 and her sister Sidnea Lantz of South Carolina.
Survivors include three daughters: Orva McNaney of Killeen, TX, Deborah Yohey of Berwick and Ruth Blanchek and husband, John, of Berwick; seven grandchildren: Mark Webb and wife, Chelle, Jeffrey Blanchek and wife, Luwanda, Jenny Barranco and husband, Edgar, Michael Blanchek and wife, Denise, Jessica Andrews and husband, Paul, Slade Rauch and wife, Christine, Travis Rauch and wife, Stacy; 10 great grandchildren: Jeffrey and Rebecca Blanchek, Lauren and Julia Rauch, Colby and Brady Rauch, Jack and Anthony Andrews and Mark and Emme Webb.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday morning, April 8 from 10 to 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Tuesday morning April 8 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with Pastor Larry H Kreischer of the Bethel United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Creveling Cemetery, Almedia. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Wynings family.
