Mildred T. Smith, age 94 of Roopville, passed away February 28, 2018. She was born November 1, 1923, in Carroll County, daughter of the late John C. Tuggle, Sr., and Neoma Howard Tuggle. She worked as a seamstress and presser for more than 30 years at Sewell’s Manufacturing Company and was a member of Roopville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Ollie Smith; brothers, J.C. Tuggle and Hendon Tuggle; and sisters, Lillian Lovvorn and Zubie Gibson. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Barry Hanson, Judy and Clarence Lambert, and Sylvia and Dale Fleming all of Carrollton; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Kathy Smith of Carrollton, Steve Smith of Roopville (and Holly Jiles of Carrollton), and Terry and Rhonda Smith of Roopville; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 2:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Steve Swafford and Rev. Wally Dedman officiating. Interment will follow in Roopville City Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers while the Holy Ground Baptist Church ball players will serve as honorary pallbearers.
