JONES -- Yolanda Proo Jones, 60, was born and raised in Albuquerque's historic Atrisco neighborhood on March 28, 1946. On March 5, Yola died in Southern California, peacefully and with her family by her side after fighting a long and debilitating illness. Though she lived in California for the last 40 years, she always loved New Mexico and especially Atrisco. She often talked about going to grandma's house across from Holy Family Church. She loved grandma's beans and chile and tortillas. She liked to have chile pods from "here" sent to her in California because ours "where the best," she said. Yola's greatest joy in life was spending holidays with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert "Beto" and Alyce Proo; a son, Rodney; and many aunts and uncles from Atrisco. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, John Jones; sons, Thomas and Jim Jones; daughter, Elizabeth Perea; brother, Michael (Becky) Proo; sister, Yvonne (Glen) Galyon; grandchildren, Joey, Victor and Rami; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Joslyn and Eli; nieces and nephews Amanda, Matthew, Taylor, Jacob, Michelle and Jon; and many cousins and friends in Albuquerque and California. A Rosary was prayed Thursday in Manhatten Beach, Calif. (White and Day Mortuary), Mass was celebrated at Saint Catherine Laboure Church on Friday and she was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in California. A Mass for Yola will be held at 8:00 a.m. on April 22, 2007 at Holy Family Church in Atrisco.
