Samuel McCoy Vance was born November 13, 1837 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania to Robert Vance, Jr. and Margaret (Moore) Vance. He served in the Civil War as a corporal in Company H, 7th Ohio Infantry, and was reportedly wounded at Antedum. He enlisted in the army June 7, 1861 and was discharged in June 10, 1864. He married Elizabeth Douglass or Mary D. Samuel died in the vet's home in Dayton Ohio. Records showed he had a son - W. H. Vance of Chicago, Illinois.
