Norman served as a Sergeant, 499th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire & was previously a member of the New Hampshire National Guard prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on October 6, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment as being Married.

Norman was "Killed In Action" while a passenger on the S.S. Thomas Nelson which was hit by a Japanese kamikaze attack off Leyte Island, Philippines Islands during the war.

He was one of 136 soldiers that were killed during that attack on the Nelson.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Service # 20142146

The S.S. Thomas Nelson survived the attack, was repaired, and survived the war.
