William G. Pool Jr. POST-Bill went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Bill was passionate about his walk with the Lord, his beautiful family, and his American citizenship. He was born on Jan. 16, 1931 in Dawson County to William G. Pool Sr. and Beulah Moore Pool. He graduated from Union High School in 1948 and from Hardin-Simmons University in 1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving the Army Signal Corp in the First Calvary Division for three years. He was honorably discharged in May 1954 with the rank of Sergeant. On May 22, 1954, he married the love of his life, Joy Scott, at the First Baptist Church in Post, Texas. They were the parents of Dana Pool Hamous and Kerri Pool Taylor. He loved to travel, and he and his wife were able to visit in 35 different countries. They enjoyed beautiful and unusual sights abroad as well as throughout the USA. Bill was employed by General Motors for nine years. Then he owned and operated the Ford Motor Car Agency in Post for five years before his employment at Burlington Industries, where he worked for fifteen years. He then was employed as City Manager for the city of Post for three years. Following that time he worked as a State Parole Officer for ten years before his retirement in 1998. Bill was very active in service to his community. He was a member of the Rotary Club, serving as the clubs president in 2000 to 2001. He was the leader for a Group Study Exchange program to the Philippine Islands for a months study in 1999. He served the city of Post for 23 years as councilman, three years as City Manager, and two years as Mayor. He also served on the Hospital Board, Housing Board, and White River Water Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and church treasurer. Preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters: Dorothy Phillips, Lillie Grace Pearce and Francis Pool. He is survived by his wife, Joy; two daughters, Dana Hamous and husband Jody, and Kerri Taylor and husband Larry. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ben Norman and wife Beverly, Ross Norman and wife Emilee, Jeni Leach and husband Danny, Trudy Smith and husband Andy, Carly Abel and husband Carter, and Jake Taylor. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Charlotte Norman, and Will and Caleb Norman. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church on Saturday, April 5, at 3 p.m. Visitation will take place at Hudman Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. Bill is remembered by his family and friends for his warmth, integrity, and love for family. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Lubbock for their special care.
