Ella "Mae" McAlpin, 94, of Benton died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Poulson Funeral Home Chapel in Benton, officiated by the Rev. Tony Auxier. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery in Galatia. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the North Benton Baptist Church.
Mrs. McAlpin was born May 4, 1915, in West End, Saline County, the daughter of Willis Edgar Keelin and Ella Rhoda Phillips.
She was married to 1st Lt. Virgil Raymond "Mac" McAlpin, and he was killed in World War II.
A homemaker, she sewed and designed her clothing, made crafts and was a baker. She watched her diet and nutrition, and exercised daily.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the North Benton Baptist Church in Benton.
She is survived by her son, David W. McAlpin and wife, Mary, of Cragsmoor, N.Y.; grandchildren, Daniel K. McAlpin and Andrew D. McAlpin, both of Binghamton, N.Y.; sister, Thelma Johnson of Bourbonnais; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five sisters, Lena Bancroft, Mary Wava Abney, Ruth Isaacs, Naomi Bourland and Vivian Richerson.
