U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Washington Academy, in 1818, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1821 and practiced law in New Canton, Virginia. In 1839, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth Congress, serving until 1841. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was member of the Virginia constitutional convention, (1850-51) and county judge of Buckingham County, Virginia, (1870-79).
