Carl Kennedy, 68, of Jolo, W.Va., passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, Va. Born October 19, 1945, in McDowell County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Henry Kennedy and Mary Muncy Kennedy. He was a lifelong resident of McDowell County, attended Jesus Church of Bartley, a disabled coal miner and member of the UMWA and loved being outdoors. A loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 26 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Ruth Kennedy of Jolo, W.Va.; daughters, Heather Kennedy of the home, Brenda (Harvey) Payne of Jolo, W.Va., Krissy and (Frankie) Payne of Claypool Hill, Va., and Lisa (Keith) Mounts of Ikes Fork, W.Va.; son, Marcus Kennedy of the home; brother, Weddle (Nancy) Kennedy of Jolo, W.Va.; sisters, Tamsey Riffe of S.C., Jenny (Lidge) Perkins of Georgia, Clara Hicks of Princeton, W.Va., Nancy Owens of Fla., Dorothy Griffin of Ind.. He was also survived by his grandchildren, Hannah, Madison, Christian, Brittany, Dylan, Keith Jr., Briana, Cassandra and Pamela; and special nephew, Brian Riffe of S.C. Funeral services for Carl Kennedy were conducted at the Jesus Church of Bartley in Bartley, W.Va., 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, where the Reverends Pete Woods, Jessie Woods, and Tommy Addair officiated. Burial followed at the Kennedy Cemetery on Bug Hurley Hollow, Jolo, W.Va. Active pallbearers were his family and friends.
