John was the son of Michael Holland and Susanna Ingersoll and was born at Gloucester Ma.. He married Rebecca Ilsley on 28 Aug. 1792 at Newbury Ma. His widow Rebecca in 1846 (Fold3) stated that John was a Revolutionary War veteran serving at Newbury, Boston and Manchester in the "Sea Service." He is listed on the Revolutionary War Graves Register as well as the SAR Revolutionary War Graves Register. He was a sea captain and commanded a fleet of fishing vessels off the Maine coast and was lost at sea and drowned on Aug. 23, 1823. Their children included John, Susan H., Michael, Rebecca, David, Hannah, Richard, Caroline, Daniel and Henry I.
