Francis Wilbur Thorpe, 52, died suddenly Friday after shoveling snow at his home in northeast Lake View. He apparently had been in good health and his death was a shock to all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 from Farber and Otteman Funeral Home and at 2 from the Methodist church with Rev. Paul Potter officiating. Masonic last rites were given by Clifford Mason of Westside both at the church and at the graveside.

Casket attendants were Rufus Kowalke, Tom Chambers, Wayne Christian, Vernon Wicker, Jack Tarpy and Lloyd Smith. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Carl Sproul and Mrs. Jack Tarpy.

Eugene Christian sang "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied by Mrs. W.K. Hunter who was organist. Burial was in Ferguson Cemetery.

Francis Wilbur Thorpe, son of Francis Marion Thorpe and Theresa Thorpe, was born at Early, Iowa April 6, 1904 and died Nov. 23rd, 1956 at his home here.

Mr. Thorpe spent his childhood and youth in Early. He received his education there and moved to Carnarvon about 1928. In 1946 he moved to Lake View where he resided until his death.

He was united in marriage to Lula Walrod of Carnarvon Dec. 25, 1928. To this union were born two daughters, Wanda and Shirley.

Mr. Thorpe was employed by the Lake View Concrete Tile Co. Prior to this, he worked as a foreman for A.L. Christian Construction Company.

He was a member of the Methodist church and a member of the local Masonic lodge.

His parents, two sisters: Agnes (Mrs. Fred Christian) and Eva, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Wanda and Shirley (Mrs. Ed Jandel), both of Omaha, Nebr., two sisters, Mae (Mrs. Joe Level) of Seattle, Wash., Lillian, (Mrs. Lillian Adams) of Schaller; five brothers, Merrill of Lake View, Lee of Storm Lake, Lyle of Des Moines, Roland of Carnarvon and Lamont of Winterset; one granddaughter, Cynthia and a host of friends.
