Doris was born to Patrick and Wilma Starrett in Seattle, WA. She grew up in the family home near Sandpoint with her brother Donald R. Starrett who preceded her in death. Doris graduated from Roosevelt High School.

When she was 21, she met and married US Marine Walter Rimmer eventually moving to Mount Vernon where they raised their five children.

Doris enjoyed her family, her church, picnics at Deception pass, playing cards with her family and friends. "Mom was a great cook and made the best apple dumplings ever" says youngest son Bill.

Doris was proud of her work and retired from the King County Library and then did volunteer work at the Library for many years.

Walt passed in 1986. Walt was in the tire business and taught son Pat the business. Walt was an avid golfer and gave his children and grandchildren fits with his ability to beat them on the golf course.

She remarried a terrific gentle and kind man, Ralph McNeil, whom she courted by passing a note to him during church asking him if he'd like to play golf with her sometime. They married in 1996 enjoyed many happy years in Bothell before moving to Tacoma in 2012 to be closer to Doris' daughter Donna.

She leaves behind her loving husband Ralph, daughters, JoAnn Johnson of Eugene and Donna Colleran of Tacoma, sons, Pat (Judy) Rimmer of Bow, WA., Mike (Sharon) Rimmer of Eugene, OR, Bill (Linda) Rimmer, of Mount Vernon, as well as 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her family will remember her loving nature and her devotion to her family. She had more energy than anyone around, and strength beyond compare.

A private family memorial will be held later this spring. Memorials may be made to the Franciscan Hospice House, 2901 Bridgeport Way, University Place, WA 98466.
